Ultrasound testing involves exposing the body to high frequency sound waves and using these waves to produce images. Ultrasound testing, or sonography as it is known, is a useful diagnostic tool for your doctor to obtain more information about the structure and appearance of your internal body organs and also to detect any abnormalities that might be present. Ultrasound does not use ionizing radiation and is generally considered to be a safe procedure with no known side effects.
When you arrive at Ontario Mobile Imaging for your ultrasound test you will be asked to change into an examination gown and lie on an examination table. An ultrasound technologist (sonographer), will apply lubricating gel over the area to be scanned. An instrument known as a transducer will then be pressed firmly to your skin and used to form digital images.
